Erika Voeller

Copywriter & Content Strategist, Olive & Company

Q: Why did you join Women in Digital?

A: I wanted to be able to attend networking events and feel like I belonged. I wanted my identity as a woman and as a digital marketer to be embraced, as opposed to looked down on. Our chapter is also bursting with some bomb ass women and I really wanted to get to know them better.

Q: What’s your specialty? What makes you tick?

A: I love so many things, from reading and writing to absorbing the latest marketing trends and practicing yoga. Above all, I think connection is my specialty. I love meeting new people, I love introducing friends I think might get along, I love helping businesses connect with audiences.

Q: What was your first job out of college?

A: My first job was a hybrid role at the same agency I’m at now, Olive & Company. I started out as our front desk assistant / junior copywriter.

Q: What is the best career advice you’ve ever received?

A: Never burn a bridge. You never know who you’ll run into — and maybe even work alongside — in the future, especially if you stay in the same industry.

Q: What can you give your fellow members of Women in Digital?

A: I have a background in journalism and editing, as well as experience as a copywriter in an agency setting. If anyone needs something proofread — be it a blog, social post, cover letter, or even LinkedIn profile — I’m your gal!

Q: What does digital mean to you?

A: To me, digital = possibility. There is still so much left untapped in the digital space; I can’t imagine what we’ll come up with next.

Q: What do you think is the greatest challenge facing women today?

A: I think women today often face a lot of assumptions. If we look, speak, talk, or dress a certain way, assumptions about us are made. This is true of everyone, of course, but I think women in the workplace, specifically, are often held to an entirely different standard than our male counterparts.

Q: What do you think we can do to overcome that challenge?

A: Have conversations. Be open. Be honest. And involve the men. We need them on our side, advocating for us and giving us the opportunities we’re requesting.

Q: Why do you love digital?

A: Digital has changed the way we connect and communicate with one another. I love it for the ease at which is allows me to meet and get to know new people, as well as build my personal brand, my business, and my professional network.
